Ficoll® 400 is a component of Denhardt's solution and several gel loading buffers (2 [Page 6.12]). The addition of Ficoll® 400, sucrose or glycerol increase the density of the loading buffers and facilitate the loading of the sample onto the gel. Composition of loading buffers: I. 0.25 % Bromophenol blue, 0.25 % xylene cyanol FF, 15 % Ficoll® 400 in water (store at room temperature)(according to ref. 2) II. Alkaline loading buffer 300 mM NaOH, 6 mM EDTA, 18 % Ficoll® 400, 0.15 % Bromocresol green, 0.25 % xylene cyanol FF in water (store at +4°C)
